er??....this looks nothing like the thumbnail!.....or am I missing something?

Well, I'm not much on abstract (I'm a bit simple that way) but here goes...
:) It's got good tone and texture, with definite solidity, though to be honest I'd say anyone viewing it with anything resembling a "default" monitor would miss 90% of the subtleties.
:) I have no idea if it's meant to represent a dude wrapped up in bandages and falling into a chasm, but to me it does and you've captured a certain element of depth and movement
:( As I said, on most monitors I'm afraid this would be just black and dull red. I don't think it works at this size, it would need to be printed big and on a wall in good light.
:( I'm old fashioned in this way, but I reckon even an abstract image needs some sort of focus defined by light and tone as well as form and composition
I have no idea how to score this. I'll imagine it on a wall and give +7

I really like the work. The shapes and the work with the red and black.
I love abstract paintings when like this, express strong feelings.

This reminds me a bit of the rising sun on the old japanese flags. Only the sun is a person with ribbons or strips of material wrapped around it and shooting off in different directions. I like it and the center has a nice smokey texture to it. I am intrigued as to how this will transpire once you print it out and add onto it! The only thing I am not sure about is there seems to be initials in the center. I dont know if this is just a random pattern that just looks like initials but to me it seems distracting. Nice work.

Very good work with the colors and shadings. It appears the person is being pulled in all directions. It may be a bit dark overall but may work well in a large print!

cool. I like the abstractness. only crit is some of the brushes (on the far left and right) are slightly blurred when they get too big.)

and when (to me) there are lots of sharp elements. it is kind of throwing it off a bit...

ok looks like you lightened it up a tad... since I last seen it....
I honestly cant give a crit to this, if I don't understand it
its pretty cool Abstract, I bet it would look cool on the wall with a black frame too oh and a black or red leather sofa under it :p
sorry im day dreaming :p

Half the elements mentioned I can't see...probably have to adjust my monitor....sorry :(

Just going on basic form and line I think it's layed out quite well...

Lousia this is really really good work, I love the choice of colors and the man/woman that is manifesting herself from nowhere (or at least thats the way I see it). For me this is top score, very well done.

I would really love to hear your thoughts about this piece, please drop me a PM if you have time

I see a person wrapped on bandages....and my eye goes right to it....
Very nice composition....I like the overall darknesss of the work because it adds mistery and sadness ........and I can see the details in my monitor but monitors don't do justice to some works with subtle shadows or higlights....
maybe it is a little too dark for most of the monitors....But I like your work...and the feelings that evoques....including some peace.....that I hope I can reach when my end comes....Beautiful work Louisa!

I cant crit this....

So I agree with 3 from the bottom 6 from the top and the 4th line in crits 3/8/23

Hope that helps...

 11/28/05 @795

Thanks everybody, your crits are very appreciated!

I agree that this is WAY too dark for a monitor and it was definately made only for print.. but I love you guys :) and need your opinions :p

megadata: I love you trying to analyze this, lol and you're reading too much into it. The text wasn't really meant to be legible and it is also not in English. :) I love your reaction! Thanks for finally getting it up there :p

I like the work.
As a oil painter I can see it on canvas.:)
Good idea of adding charcoal and clear acrylic on top.
Maybe some colored acrylic to Highlight the important parts.;)
Just a thought.

cupcake: good idea! :) will do

maybe if I get my hands on a good-enough quality camera, I'll take a photo of the finished product.

I changed the large thumbnail to be a little more fitting to the actual image :)

Avatar Azmeos

 11/29/05 @976

I think it's a great start but it seems to lack a sense of finish. If this is the background and you are adding layers then it could be great, but right now it doesn't seem to hold any sort of focal point. I'd love to see the finished product.

My only crit is some areas need to be brighter, it all seems a bit dark. And it is difficult to see some details, It might be my monitor. But I like this a lot, its pretty cool. Good Job.

I definitely saw a person wrapped in bandages. I love the colors - it definitely has a creepy, dark feel to me. I also sense a lot of movement with this piece... perhaps a falling sensation? Nice work Louisa!

Oh, and I agree with Pam about framing...

Thanks everybody I'm going to use all of the crits to edit the work and post-production, acrylic, traditional work. I never expected this to reach the top 10 for the painting category. I'm excited that so many of you like or appreciate abstract/expressionist work. It's surprising! But it makes me very happy to know :) Thx again!

I'm no expert on abstract paintings but this is cool, I can look into it and see different things. I'd love to see you do a tranquil painting in this style, nicely done.

Why are you surprising? This is great work... every time i look at this i see something else and i see more... this is great abstract, keep it you're good in this kind of art

Some people say that abstract painting doesnt have to be understood or analyzed, they said that abstract has to be feeled..... Im just letting this piece get into me and evoquing me a lot of dark and obscure feelings..... I cant it explain it in words......................... +10/10

Avatar eowyn

 12/04/05 @354

I see a person in bandage too like Rene did.
I have to fully agree with Jose.
Abstract is abstract, you have to feel it.
I feel it. I love the provoking emotions here.
Good job on the strokes!
